Councillors are unanimously backing a campaign for early reopening of the Minor Injuries Unit at the Yeatman Hospital.
The unit has been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but many Sherborne residents have expressed fears it may never reopen.
The nearest Minor Injuries Unit is now in Shaftesbury. Patients who go to A&E at Yeovil District Hospital are specifically requested not to attend with minor injuries.
In a letter to the health trust that runs the Yeatman Hospital, Mayor Jon Andrews said:
Sherborne Town Council believes that now there is a clear need to balance the Covid-19 situation with our duty to represent the value of Yeatman Hospital’s MIU to our Community. We cannot overstate the importance of the MIU to Sherborne and the surrounding area. We do not want a COVID-19 contingency plan to become the status quo.
