In April Mayor Jon Andrews marked the beginning of a new Church and Community Together project by opening The Pod.
This is a new initiative from Cheap Street Methodist/URC Church.
The church aims to be there for the community in a more supportive way. Being based in the heart of the town in the middle of Cheap Street, The Pod is in a very accessible position, with a shop window that can be used to build awareness of all sorts of community groups and support, as well as encouraging more consideration of the Christian message.
Lynn Heaton from the project said ‘We want to work with other churches in the town, other groups, and members of the community to link people together, using the shop premises at 54, Cheap Street as a contact point, information hub and drop off/pick up point for various appeals. The aim is to promote ways in which we can all contribute to the well-being of the whole community.’
Mayor, Jon Andrews said ‘It was a pleasure to open this new project for Sherborne, with the church and community working side by side, to help raise awareness of the support that is available in the town. It was extra special for me as it was the first opening event I have been involved in since the pandemic began in 2020, showing that life is slowly getting back to normal.’
