There is a lot being planned for the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend in Sherborne. An occasion that will possibly only happen once in our lifetimes.
Here is a taste of things to come…
- Thursday 2nd June – the Sherborne Beacon will be lit in the evening, along with 1500 other beacons across the country, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK overseas territories. We are hoping the Sherborne Abbey choir and a local bugler will perform prior to this in the town.
- Friday 3rd June – there will be a service in Sherborne Abbey in conjunction with the Chairman of Dorset Council.
- Saturday 4th June – Sherborne Chamber of Commerce are organising stalls on Cheap Street along with a shop window competition and Sherborne Community Kitchen will be holding a Platinum Jubilee Big Lunch. Free parking will be available in the town.
- There will be a Picnic in the Park at Pageant Gardens with entertainment in the afternoon and evening, including Sherborne Town Band, other bands and a DJ.
- Sunday 5th June – Dorset Council are welcoming applications from anyone wishing to hold a street party, on this day, with up to 150 people in attendance. Further details for this can be found at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/-/street-party-on-the-highway
