This year’s Sherborne Ambassador team is up and running, ready to help visitors to the town.
Dorset Council introduced the Volunteer Ambassador scheme and provide the basic kit & training. The idea behind there being Volunteer Ambassadors in the town, is to have a welcoming face for visitors in key tourism spots. Ambassadors will greet visitors and be able to provide local information about parking, restrooms, restaurants/cafes, places of interest, and when busy—alternative places that they could visit.
The Sherborne team currently has seven members – Anne Hall, Jill Warburton, Margaret Crossman, Sue Hill, Rebecca Edgecombe, Ian Puncher and Derek Williams.
They are either Sherborne residents or have strong connections to the town and work here; giving vast amounts of local knowledge of the places for tourists to see, eat and visit as well as any special events that will be taking place across the summer season.
The team can be seen out and about in the town on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, from 10am – 1pm and afternoons 1pm – 4pm, until early October.
There is the opportunity for some members to be based at a static station on the Abbey Green, whilst others might prefer to walk around the town helping visitors when needed.
