A United Service for all Denominations will be held in the Abbey
Seats will be reserved at the service for relatives of the fallen and for disabled ex-servicemen unable to march in the Procession.
A procession will be formed at the Digby Hall Car Park, Hound Street in readiness to move off at 10.45am. It will be led by Sherborne Town Band and will march to the Abbey and after the Service will march to South Street, via Half Moon Street.
All service, ex-service and pre-service organisations are invited to take part in the procession and would be advised to arrive at the Digby Hall by 10.20 am to enable the Parade Marshal to organise the formation of the parade.
Notes: Colours of ex-service organisations only will be carried on parade. Any other organised body wishing to take part in the procession or service is requested to notify the town council offices at The Manor House, Newland, Sherborne on 01935 812807 or email civicadmin@sherborne-tc.gov.uk.
In accordance with the wishes of His Majesty the King, medals and decorations should be worn with civilian clothes.
The public are requested to observe the usual custom of removing head-dress as a mark of respect on the passing of the colours and standard.
Poppies
The Poppy Appeal will be formally launched on Thursday 27 October at the war memorial, and poppies will also be available in Sherborne from Thursday 27 October to Saturday 12th November from many shops and premises throughout the town.
Wreaths
It is hoped that wreaths placed upon the memorial will be of poppies. Organisations should order their wreaths from the Poppy Appeal Organiser, Mr Andrew Norton who is available at andrewwilliam@talktalk.net or telephone 07769407130. Individual members of the public are asked to have their wreaths in position by 10.30 a.m.
The public are invited to display their flags at full mast throughout the day.
Remembrance Crosses
Small remembrance crosses will also be available for the public from Mr Andrew Norton and there will be a Field of Remembrance adjoining the memorial where individuals may place their remembrance crosses.
Units are requested not to fall out before the national anthem has been played.
