The play area was deemed a priority play site for improvements and funding was allocated from the Sherborne Town Council Play Area Reserve to cover the re-development costs.
Kompan, the organisation that has supplied and installed the equipment, is recognised for it’s green ethics and products. Kompan is reducing carbon emissions by putting waste to good use and using more sustainable raw materials. The new play park consists of posts made from 100% post consumer recycled textile and plastic waste, the spinning bowl is made up of 25% ocean recycled waste and the panels have a core of 100% post consumer recycled waste and are 80% recycled with a 20% virgin plastic coloured cap layer.
The nearby play area at Granville Way will be removed, with work to begin this week. In it’s place will be a quiet space and sensory garden. This comes as a result of a request from within the local community for such a space and will be funded by Section 106 developer funding ringfenced towards the cost of providing community and social infrastructure in the town.
