Thursday 6th June 2024 marks 80 years since the D-Day landings on five beaches in Normandy, France and remembering the service and sacrifice of all those involved in turning the tide in the Second World War.
This morning the Sherborne District Branch of the Royal British Legion manned a stall at the Conduit to mark and remember events and to talk with passers-by.
At 11am wreaths were laid by the Deputy Mayor of Sherborne, Cllr Jill Warburton and the Chairman of the Sherborne District Branch of the Royal British Legion, Dave Bows as The Standard was paraded.
This evening, the Beacon, at The Terrace Playing Fields, will be lit at 9.15pm. Prior to this hot drinks will be available from 8pm and the Sherborne Town Band will be playing from 8.30pm.
Sherborne Abbey will be lit up red, white and blue from this evening, until the weekend.
