Soroptimists International is a global volunteer movement with a network of just under 65,000 members in 118 countries. It works at a local, national and international level to transform the lives and status of women and girls through “Educate, Empower and Enable” opportunities for both.
S.I. of Great Britain and Ireland (S.I.G.B.I.) was chartered 92 years ago in 1934 with the Yeovil, Sherborne and Districts Club founded 75 years ago in 1951.
Every year on November 25 the club participates in the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
Soroptimists groups throughout the world hold various events for 16 days of Activism from November 25 to December 10, using the colour orange as their theme.
In November 2024 Yeovil, Sherborne and Districts club organised a donation of 180 orange tulips, called Orange Brilliant, which were planted in 2 patches of 90 bulbs each, in Pageant Gardens, Sherborne as well as another 90 orange tulips planted at Westlands Leisure Centre, Yeovil.
On March 25 2026 a plaque donated by Timpson was installed amongst the tulips by Sherborne Town Mayor, Cllr Jill Warburton and members of the club – Jackie Collins (President), Johanna Maidment (President Elect), Jackie Mosedale (Programme Action), Alison Adlam and Sue Wright.
