A Dorset Council spokesperson has said: “Dorset Council officers and a structural engineer inspected the site yesterday (Wednesday 6 May) and have been on site every day since the fire broke out. Dangerous gable walls, fire‑damaged roof sections and chimney stacks have already been removed, and scaffolding is in place to protect the pavement and road.
“Further fire damage to the roof has now been identified and needs to be removed for public safety. Additional scaffolding, safety netting and hoardings will be installed from today (Thursday 7 May), with contractors aiming to complete this work by the end of the week.
“One remaining large chimney still needs to be removed. This is expected to be done from within the site, but Cornhill Road is likely to remain closed until that work is complete.
“The site will be monitored daily by council officers, with a further structural inspection due on Friday. A decision on reopening the road will be made as soon as it is safe to do so.”
