Events for the coronation weekend had been in the planning for months leading up to the celebrations. Sherborne Town Council joined forces with Sherborne Chamber of Trade & Commerce, along with the Sherborne Summer Festival to put together entertainment across the weekend for all ages, which included live music, children’s entertainers, stalls, food and drink and finished with a computerised laser show.

The couple of weeks prior to the coronation weekend bunting was put up on Cheap Street and Coronation emblem lamp-post signs were erected to decorate the town.

The weekend began on Friday 5 May with a Dorset Civic Service at Sherborne Abbey, where dignitaries, civic leaders and parishioners were welcomed to the service for the Coronation of King Charles III.

The service was conducted by the Bishop of Sherborne, The Right Reverend Karen Gorham, and the Rector of Sherborne Abbey, The Reverend Martin Lee.

Sherborne Abbey looked spectacular lit up in red, white and blue, each night of the weekend.

From 2pm and following the King’s Coronation, on Saturday 6 May, Pageant Gardens started to fill with people ready to listen to some fantastic live music, eat, drink and maybe have a dance!

Celebrations continued the following afternoon and then after the bands and disco had finished and the sun had set the laser show started and what an amazing sight it was.
