Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations in Sherborne

With just under a month to go until we celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Sherborne Town Council with Sherborne Chamber of Trade & Commerce, Sherborne Indies and Abbey FM have put together a programme of events running from Thursday 2nd June to Saturday 4th June.

As well as all of the above there will be:

Thursday 2 June

Sherborne Town Band playing a medley of music, for an hour prior to the lighting of the beacon. Sherborne Town Mayor, Cllr Juliet Pentolfe will say a few words and a bugler will play ‘Majesty’ around 9.40pm

Saturday 4 June

A primary school children’s fancy dress parade, along Cheap Street, commencing at 3pm, with prizes for the winners.

There will be stalls and street entertainment along Cheap Street.

Everyone is invited to have a family picnic in the gardens with a red, white and blue optional dress code.

BBQs are not permitted!

Food and drink will be for sale in the gardens, from some of Sherborne’s finest pubs, shops and cafes.

Merlin Cadogan, Escapologist and Entertainer, who made it through to the semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent will in Pageant Gardens during the afternoon and evening.

Music during the day and into the evening will include Sherborne Town Band, Wiggle Jazz Band, Livewired and a DJ.

Free parking will be available all day in the town.

Other activities

The local nursing/residential homes will have a Jubilee themed competition and the shops in the town will be taking part in a competition for ‘Best dressed window’ during the week leading up to the Jubilee weekend with prizes to be awarded for all of these.

Bunting will line Cheap Street and the band stand in Pageant Gardens and shortly there will be souvenir mugs for sale at shops in the town.
