Road safety improvements at junction of the A352 and New Road

Dorset Highways is due to start construction of road safety improvements at the junction of the A352 and New Road near Sherborne.

The works are due to start on 2 April 2024 and are anticipated to take around four weeks to complete.

This junction has been the location of a number of road traffic collisions where road users have sustained injuries. Dorset Council are seeking to implement minor improvements which intend to reduce the number of collisions at this junction. We will then monitor the impact of these improvements over time.

Details of the proposals are given on the above plan. In summary, signage will be relocated along with fence lines in the vicinity of the junction, to improve visibility. The project also includes changes to the road markings to improve the angle at which drivers approach the junction at New Road. To enable the works to be carried out safely, traffic will be managed with temporary traffic lights.

The speed limit of the A352 will also be reduced to 30mph on Horsecastles Lane, Ottery Lane and Dancing Hill.  This includes a section of 40 mph limit on Sherborne Hill. Dorset Council will implement the new speed limit as part of these improvement works.
