
The Royal British Legion will be manning a pop-up stall on the Conduit from 9am, with a display, including some D-Day commemoration pins and other merchandise.
At 11am there will be a wreath laying at the war memorial with the Deputy Mayor of Sherborne and Chairman of the Sherborne District branch of the Royal British Legion in attendance, this will include The Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph. The Standard will be paraded.
Sherborne Abbey will be lit up red, white and blue for the evening of 6th June.
Evensong at The Abbey on Sunday 9th June will be devoted to the D-Day commemoration and the Standard will be paraded as well.
If you are planning to come along to the lighting of the beacon, please be aware of the following:
- Sensible shoes should be worn – there is some uneven ground.
- Be prepared for any changes in the weather.
- Access for wheelchairs is not advisable.
- Bring a torch as the paths leading up to the beacon are not lit.
- If arriving by car, please park in the Terrace Playing Fields car park.
- If arriving on foot, please use the various footpaths leading up to the beacon.
- The fire services will be present during the event to ensure public safety.
