As a local council we like to think we are one of the organisations at the heart of the Sherborne community, helping to give neighbourhoods a voice and getting people more involved in the decisions that affect them. We want to be able to serve our community as best we can and one of the ways to be able to assess we are doing this is via the Local Council Award Scheme (LCAS).
The LCAS has been designed to celebrate the successes of the very best local councils and to provide a framework to support all local councils to improve and develop to meet their full potential. The scheme offers councils the opportunity to show that they meet the standards set by the sector, assessed them by their peers, and put in place the conditions for continued improvement.
Sherborne Town Council has entered the Foundation Award for this scheme, which requires us to meet certain standards, to deliver effectively for the community. It allows us to benchmark our performance as well as challenge us to consider your council’s continuing development and improvement.
We are delighted to report that we have recently been accredited with this award.
Running alongside this has been the exciting news that Sherborne Town Council was named one of five finalists in the Council of the Year category of the National Association of Local Councils’ (NALC) Star Council Awards 2023.
The awards are the only ones in England that recognise local parish and town councils’ contribution to their community and celebrate the positive impact they have.
Amongst other things Sherborne Town Council has been recognised as having ‘demonstrated impressive achievements, highlighting a commitment to community engagement, sustainable practices, and collaboration with local organisations.
Sherborne Town Council has taken ambitious steps forward with a dedicated focus on green ethics, innovative initiatives, and improved communication, as outlined in its forward plan. They have embraced sustainability, community engagement and growth, showcasing a holistic approach to enhancing the quality of life for residents in Sherborne.’
Sadly, we didn’t win, but we congratulate all the winners across the various award categories for their fantastic achievements. We are proud that the town and council have been recognised and named one of the finalists.
