This week, Sherborne Town Ladies Football Club Under 12s hosted Ridgeway FC Falcons for a League cup match. The Mini Zebras hoping to maintain their undefeated position at the top of Group B.
The Mayor of Sherborne, Councillor Juliet Pentolfe had heard of the entertaining nature of the U12s, this week attending as a spectator and taking the opportunity to have a meet and greet with the team prior to the match, of course wishing them luck.
The match started with intensity from Sherborne, which saw them applying pressure to the Falcons for most of the first half.
The midfield worked hard to keep up the pressure supporting an opening goal from Abi. Which was soon matched by an excellent solo goal from Mia. The midfield did not release the pressure supporting Abi’s next 2 goals. Securing her hatrick this week in the first half!
The half time whistle saw the Zebras 4-0 up.
The second half started as the first had ended, with exceptional effort from our midfield to keep that pressure on the Falcons. Although the Falcons broke through the midfield on a couple of occasions the Zebras defence stayed alert and strong keeping the Falcons away from goal. Mia had a exceptional half, securing her own hattrick.
Winning 7-0 with 15min to go and sure to be victors the u12s were exemplars of sportsmanship today. Acknowledging this is a development age group, Coach Lorraine opted to reduce the Zebras to 8 players in a bid to rebalance the game. 👏🏻
However the Zebras still managed to support Abi’s final goal. A nod to the Falcons goal keeper who despite the score line had a great game👏🏻👏🏻 it could have been many more.
The full time whistle went for a 8-0 win to the U12s.
The Zebras were exceptional this week, leaving the Zebra’s goal keepers alert but with little to do.
2 hatricks from Abi and Mia were the result of hard working team effort. The midfield were relentless giving the Falcons no space to play whilst maintaining their structure. Belle, Lily P, Lille C and Lucy played their socks off 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 but Player of the Match this week goes to Ruby P, who had a number of long distance shots on goal, but just couldn’t find the back of the net….it will come Ruby we are sure 😉
The Zebras remain unbeaten in the League Cup so maintain their position at the top of Group B.
Impressed with their efforts and team spirit, Cllr Pentolfe congratulated them and could not resist a photo with the Team.
