This morning The Mayor of Sherborne, Cllr Robin Legg and the Chairman of the Sherborne branch of the Royal British Legion, David Bows laid wreaths at the Sherborne War Memorial, to mark Victory In Japan Day (VJ Day). On this day in August 1945 Japan surrendered, which in effect ended the Second World War.
Whilst VE Day marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still involved in bitter fighting in the Far East.
