In honour of VJ Day 80, on Friday 15th August 2025, there will be two minutes silence at the war memorial, outside Sherborne Abbey, at midday.
Following the ceremonials, The Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Sherborne branch of the Royal British Legion will lay wreaths to pay tribute to those who served in the Far East and Pacific during the Second World War.
In the afternoon a picnic in the park will take place in Pageant Gardens from 3pm.
The beacon will unfortunately not be lit for this event due to the dry ground conditions and predicted further heat wave for next week.
